I am enthusiastic about Inheritance of Hope!  My enthusiasm began when it was first founded and has continued as my involvement has grown.

The Milligans

When my best friend, Kristen Milligan, called me in 2003 to share her diagnosis of terminal liver cancer it was very difficult to see any good in that situation.  It quickly became clear that it was not only Kristen who was battling this illness but it was also her husband and three young children.  When they decided to start an organization that served families just like theirs, I was thrilled to be a part of it.  I did what I could to help.

Then in February 2009 I became a full-time volunteer coordinating the Legacy Retreats for Inheritance of Hope.  I get the privilege to interact with all of the families as we invite them to attend a Legacy Retreat and get them confirmed for the one that best fits their family.

Many of these families are struggling financially, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.  It is such an amazing honor to call them and share the news that we will take care of all the expenses and logistics to give their family a spectacular trip…a vacation where they will make precious family memories and also get to meet other families who know what they are going through.

As I share with them some of the itinerary highlights and the fact that we have volunteers ready to help push their wheelchair or take their kids if they need rest, there are often tears flowing.  They are overwhelmed that amidst all the difficulties they are facing there is a light of enjoyment.  Once they get to the Legacy Retreat they are not disappointed and often overwhelmed by the love, fun, and HOPE they encounter! I love my job and I LOVE these families!!!

I love them so much that I have taken my enthusiasm to another whole level.  I am going to run!

I started running in February 2011. I have been running for 8 months and I plan on doing the Marine Corp Marathon on October 30, 2011.

I am running because I love Deric and Kristen Milligan and I believe wholeheartedly in what they are doing through Inheritance of Hope!

I run because I KNOW these families that we serve , and I KNOW they need the hope that we offer.
