Volunteer With Inheritance of Hope!

Thank you for your interest in serving families facing the loss of a parent. Being an Inheritance of Hope volunteer is a rewarding experience and can take many forms.

At a Legacy Retreat®, the primary role of a volunteer is to assist parents and group leaders with the care of children. Many IoH parents are weak from the progression of their disease or tired from the uncertainty their family faces. Families are typically eager for the opportunity to have a volunteer accompany them during their on-site experience. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of their volunteer’s presence and willingness to help for duties including transporting luggage to/from the hotel, organizing and delivering meals, assisting with airport pick-ups/drop-offs, and being available for whatever might help and encourage their family. Inheritance of Hope volunteers are what make the experience the most restful, the most memorable, and the most enjoyable for our families.

During a Hope@Home™ Weekend, the primary role of a volunteer is to welcome and encourage families throughout the weekend. Many of these children are facing incredible uncertainty and need a friend! Our Hope@Home™ volunteers will join specified groups to engage with families and offer encouragement and friendship. They will also commit to praying for the families and being available during the weekend as needed.

A Hope@Home™ Weekend volunteer is encouraged to share the Hope@Home™ Registry with their community and to tell their Inheritance of Hope story so more families can benefit from all of the offerings. In order to reach more families, all volunteers are encouraged to create a personalized fundraising page and find other creative ways to fundraise.

Hope@Home™ Groups exist to provide on-going care and support for each member of the family. These one hour Zoom calls range are available for everyone (kids/teens, diagnosis-specific, life after loss, caregivers) and meet weekly for three weeks out of the month. Member-led community groups create a place for families to feel understood, loved, and supported through resources and relationships.

The role of a Hope@Home™ Group volunteer is to consistently login to Zoom from the comfort of home and warmly welcome, listen, validate, and connect attendees to Inheritance of Hope resources. Volunteers who are reliable, eager to encourage and empower others, and demonstrate active listening skills play an integral part in creating a comfortable, safe space for families to process and relate to one another.

A Hope@Home™ Group volunteer is expected to regularly pray for the members of the group and to share IoH opportunities with members of the community.
