The holiday season is a busy time of family gatherings, celebrations, and traditions, but it can also be a difficult time for young families impacted by a parent’s terminal illness or loss. Many families may feel pulled in different directions emotionally between the desire to find joy in all the season has to offer and the challenges of terminal illness or the heaviness of grief.
During the holidays, schedules fill up quickly with school and church events, concerts, and services, as well as work parties and family gatherings. For parents navigating caregiving and illness, it can feel overwhelming to juggle a full holiday schedule amidst the everyday responsibilities of family life and appointments or treatment. For grieving families and children walking through life after loss, questions around whether or not to continue favorite traditions or routines they did with their loved one may tug at the corners of their minds.
At Inheritance of Hope, we don’t want families to feel alone or isolated, so our Hope Hub™ team developed the idea of a Holiday Hope Box to deliver a little joy and family fun during the holiday season.
The first year, Holiday Hope Boxes were given to Hope Hub™ families in three established Hubs. Now in its third year, our team of volunteers will pack close to 90 boxes to send out to Hope Hub™ families across 6 established and soon-to-launch Hubs. Through generous donations, our Hope Hub™ volunteers will put together boxes with sweet surprises and gifts, along with hope-filled resources and activities for families to do together during the holiday season.
