I was watching a movie with my son this week….The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian. There is a climactic moment in the movie when the Narnians are fighting the Telmarines and things are not going well for the good guys. King Peter makes the decision to pull his troops out and he yells at the top of his lungs, “RETREAT…RETREAT….RETREAT!!!” This message is yelled until the entire army hears the order and pulls back to safety.
Have you ever considered the word ‘retreat’? As a noun, retreat means a quiet or secluded place in which one can rest and relax. As a verb, it means to move back or withdraw.
Inheritance of Hope is very interested in providing a retreat (noun), a restful and relaxing place, to families battling a life-threatening illness. We also desire to make an opportunity for families to physically retreat (verb), or pull back, from the daily war they are fighting with sickness, finances, and daily stresses.
Our Legacy Retreats provide a place to move back from the hectic pace of life, take a breath and relax – all while having tons of fun and meeting new friends.
The beauty of our Retreats is that our army keeps growing. We are fighting together for our families and for our legacies.
This past month our founder and co-founder, Deric and Kristen Milligan have been fighting an epic battle against Kristen’s cancer. They have armed themselves with wonderful doctors and many prayers. It is my hope and prayer that as Kristen heals and recovers from this surgery that she will have a wonderful and restful place of retreat. Their army of prayer warriors will continue to lift them up during the battle.
In just 6 short weeks 9 families from Georgia, Texas (2), Utah, Missouri, Oregon, West Virginia (2), and Florida will find a place of retreat in New York City and will truly be able to retreat from the daily struggles of living with a life-threatening illness. It’s gonna be good!
(Wonder why we call these trips Legacy RETREATS?)
