The calendar still says November, but most everyone’s attention has turned to Christmas. I love Christmas! Time together with family, sweet treats, beautiful lights, lovely music, and gift giving to honor the greatest Gift ever given . . . Jesus Christ.
But I find myself not quite ready to let go of Thanksgiving yet . . . there are so very many reasons to be thankful, the season deserves to linger. Even in the midst of really difficult times . . . whether it be health related, financial, relational or something else entirely . . . there is always something for which we can be grateful.
Some say, “Laughter is good medicine.” I tend to think a thankful heart is the best medicine. Stopping to consider our blessings can comfort us, encourage us, strengthen us, remind us that God is good, all the time. It is so very good for our hearts, minds, bodies and souls to keep a running list of our relationships, circumstances, provisions that make us glad . . . Give it a try now . . . Think of 10 details in your life that make you thankful . . . it is sweet medicine, indeed.
This week I am especially grateful for the November 2012 NYC Legacy Retreat that took place a little over a week ago. I am thankful that 16 families from across the country were able to get away to exciting Times Square. It was a blessing to see them all enjoy the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular! It was so good to see Manhattan from the water on the 3 hour Circle Line Cruise and from the air on the Top of the Rock tour . . . beautiful! Most of all I treasure all of the smiles and hugs and warm words that were shared by the families as they were encouraged by the IOH counselors, volunteers, staff and also one another.
My plan is to carry Thanksgiving with me into the wonderful season of Christmas and the hope of the New Year too!
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever . . . Psalm 107:1
