I am so excited to bring to you another post written by one of our own Team IOH Marine Corps Marathon team mates! Read on to meet Joe Volpe … and consider supporting our Team!
This will be my fourth marathon, but is my first time running for a team.
I am thrilled to be running for Inheritance of Hope! I stumbled onto Inheritance of Hope totally by accident. Honestly, I was just looking for a team to join so I could run the race. As I scanned through the options, I realized there were many other teams with a much lower commitment. However, I kept going back to Inheritance of Hope because it spoke to my heart.
I love my wife and three sons so much! I simply cannot imagine our family being handed the challenge of a life threatening illness. So, I am extremely happy to be a part of a team that helps families to face this challenge.
Joining the team and making the commitment was a bit scary. But once I signed up, I literally felt giddy. I also shamefully wondered why it took me so long to run for someone else? And now I am over the fear of committing, I am completely humbled by the tremendous generosity of the people who have supported my run for Inheritance of Hope. I cannot thank them enough!
Training has been tough given the terrible heat and humidity we have experienced this summer in Arkansas. However, when the running got really awful and I started feeling sorry for myself, I was able to reflect on the Inheritance of Hope families who were attending legacy retreats and finish strong.
Race day is not far away now. I look forward to meeting other team members and running the race while thinking about the families that will benefit from Inheritance of Hope and the generous support from all those who give to runners on Team Inheritance of Hope!
