God’s Plan Works Through Yours

Recently, there’s been a verse that I have found to be very relevant in my life, and that is Zephaniah 3:17:

“The LORD your God is among you, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will be quiet in His love. He will delight in you with singing.”

There are three things that I took away from this verse:

1. The Lord is “a warrior who saves.” This tells us that God is present in our lives and will come and rescue us from our troubles. While that is absolutely true, it’s not promised that we will not endure hard things. In these hard times, we can know that God is there and the only true constant in our lives.

This also shows that God has a plan for us, and we can feel secure knowing that. God has a plan for me and a plan for the families we serve. We are really good at being anxious, but we can find solace in knowing that God’s plan is good and so much better than ours. So I encourage you today, if something doesn’t go as expected, know that God has it all written out. Even the small things. Something I have been repeating to myself over and over this year is “God’s plan works through yours.” We all have ideas of what we want our future to look like, but ultimately, God’s way is better.

2. God is quiet in His love. I recently had the opportunity to join my track team at Nationals as an alternate. It was an amazing experience that I am incredibly grateful for. I got to be with my team and not run, and if you know a little about me, you know that I was pretty ok with that. Since my senior year of high school, I’ve found myself getting anxious before meets, which makes running less fun. So, when my coach said there was only a 10% chance of me running, you can imagine my excitement. However, when I got to the meet, many things made me think I would be running, which spiked my anxiety. For example, about an hour before my race, our fastest girl’s name wasn’t on the list. I panicked as I thought that not only would I be running, but I would be running in place of our fastest girl.

I share this because in the moment, I wanted God to take away these anxious thoughts so I could enjoy my time cheering on the team. But as I reflect on those moments, I think about how that was God showing me His love in a quiet way. God gave me that opportunity for a reason: to depend on Him. He wanted me to lean on Him and not rely on my own strength. Those experiences made me more confident in who God is. Now, this may be a silly example, but I think it shows that God is present even when we don’t realize it. It may take days or months until we realize that the struggle we went through was God ultimately sharing His love for us. But we can look back and say, “that was God.”

3. God rejoices over us. The verse says, “He will rejoice over you with gladness” and will “delight in you with singing.” This is such a powerful image and amazing reminder. Not only do we hear that God rejoices for us, but that He actually gets a kick out of us. He claims all of us as His own and is proud to call us “His child.” Even with all our mess-ups, God still sings over us. It is such a profound picture that the God of the universe and creator of all SINGS over His children.

In closing, I want you all to remember the love our God has for us and these families we are serving. His plan is so much better than ours. He loves us even when we cannot feel His presence and rejoices in us even though we are sinful beings.
