Team Inheritance of Hope had a strong showing in the 2011 NYC Half Marathon. 21 runners raised over $35,000 to support young families with a parent experiencing a life-threatening illness.
The March 20th race was a culmination of months of fundraising and training for Team IOH members. Athletes, family members, IOH volunteers, IOH families, and IOH staff came together Saturday night at the Hotel Novotel Times Square for a delicious pasta dinner hosted by Novotel. It was a time for runners to meet other teammates and to enjoy learning more about Inheritance of Hope. Grace Gerdin, the leading fundraiser raising over $3,600 said:
I made some friends this past event…really felt like a TEAM…the pasta dinner is so helpful in that way. It was great we could stay on and talk with each other after the meal…that, for me, other than hearing the powerful words of Lucia and Heidi, Mike and Kristen, was my favorite part.
Many thanks to Heidi Simoes, Lucia Rein, Mike Davis, and Marc Sternagel for joining Kristen and Deric Milligan in speaking at the pasta dinner.
The race day was chilly but beautiful with sunshine and spectacular NYC sights – running through Central Park, the heart of Times Square and along the Hudson River.
It was wonderful finally meeting the runners behind the names – it has been a pleasure working with these amazing people!
