A Legacy of Love: Be Intentional
Through guided Family Legacy Projects, your family will create meaningful keepsakes together. You will also be presented with the opportunity to sign up to create a Legacy Video™–a priceless gift to share what matters most with your loved ones.
My three children will forever have the keepsakes of this retreat and know that no matter what happens with their dad’s health, they are loved by so many people and are a part of a legacy bigger than themselves!
Let’s Start the Conversation
- Submit Your Application: Tell us a little about your family. All your information is confidential and secure.

- Find the Right Fit: Together, we’ll determine if a Legacy Retreat® is the right fit for your family at this time.
Legacy Retreat® applications are first-come, first-served. Contact LegacyRetreats@InheritanceOfHope.org for questions or more information.
Who can attend a Legacy Retreat®?
A Legacy Retreat® is for a parent with late-stage or metastatic cancer, ALS, or another terminal diagnosis, one caregiver/spouse, and their children ages 18 and under. Young adults up to age 21 who are unmarried and still living at home may also attend, as long as they have at least one sibling within the qualifying age range.
What is the financial cost to come to a Legacy Retreat®?
The cost of a Legacy Retreat® is covered by generous donors–we simply ask families to provide their own travel. Once checked in for the retreat, costs are covered.
If travel assistance is needed, families can discuss this with their assigned Navigator and we can help to offset travel costs, thanks to generous donors. We never want a family to miss an opportunity due to financial limitations!
What can I expect at a Legacy Retreat®?
You can expect to find community, gather resources, and make meaningful memories! All of your needs will be met so you can enjoy a worry-free weekend with the people you love the most. Volunteers will be assigned to help your family have the very best time.
What is the schedule of events?
Friday:
Families arrive between noon and 3pm to check in, get acquainted, and take photos with a professional photographer. We will begin with adult and age-appropriate kid group sessions; over the course of the weekend, groups will meet 3 different times but with the same volunteers and facilitators. On Friday night, we all go to a welcome dinner with fun activities and dancing.
Saturday:
We start off in groups, then spend time working on Family Legacy Projects together. After, we enjoy planned activities for the rest of the day together. Often, kids do a special activity while adults have their own special time, too–with the location determining the details for each retreat.
Sunday:
On Sunday morning, groups meet again, then we have a closing all together. You can plan to leave by noon.
How does my family get to attend a Legacy Retreat®?
1. Fill out our application
2. Once submitted, we review your application and confirm with an email if you are eligible for a Legacy Retreat®
3. When we are ready to fill a retreat, we send an email/text to all eligible families and fill spots on a first-come, first-served basis. You then have a chance to consider the timing of a retreat and the cost of travel before saying “yes.”
4. Once you respond with your retreat preferences, we will confirm that you have a spot on an upcoming retreat and let you know when you can expect to hear from a Navigator, who will answer all your questions and help you to get registered for the retreat.
Can I bring my service animal to a Legacy Retreat®?
You can bring a registered service animal to a Legacy Retreat®. Some locations are more accommodating than others, but if you would like to bring your service animal, your Navigator can communicate with the site on your behalf to make sure we all understand the expectations.
How can I partner with Legacy Retreats®?
