Exodus 10:9 – “We will go with our young and our old, with our sons and our daughters, and with our flocks and herds, because we are to celebrate a festival to the LORD.”

Today Inheritance of Hope celebrates our 5th birthday!  Since May 21, 2007, 99 families facing a young parent’s life-threatening illness have shaped lasting legacies at Legacy Retreats.  On our birthday, we thought it would be fun to share an HD video featuring co-founder Kristen Milligan telling the Inheritance of Hope story.  Click to watch now! A special thank you goes to CCL Branding for your expert development of this video.

What do you celebrate about Inheritance of Hope’s first 5 years?

As we prepare to serve the 100th Legacy Retreat family in just a few days, we are grateful to all of you who have given your time, energy, and money as volunteers, Team IoH runners, and donors.  You have shaped lasting legacies for 99 families – thank you!

As our birthday treat to you, every donation made within the next 5 days (May 21-25) will be rewarded with a gift of 5 Inheritance of Hope wristbands.  Happy 5th birthday Inheritance of Hope!

After these 5 days of celebrating our 5th birthday, we will be excited to serve our 100th family at the May 26-29 Legacy Retreat.  But we know there are hundreds of thousands who still need Inheritance of Hope.  “Every Family Deserves a Legacy.”®

I am personally very thankful for Inheritance of Hope as a ministry, a job, and a growing family of wonderful people. I am blessed to be involved and amazed at all that has happened in the last 5 years.

Happy birthday IoH — and many more!

  2. Inheritance of Hope is a wonderful God-centered ministry who brings people together to focus on what’s important. Knowing there are others that feel/are in the same situation is so comforting. Thank you to the Milligan’s, staff, donors, volunteers and all who make this ministry possible.

Wow! How far IoH has come since that first retreat half a decade ago. Thanks for inviting us to join you on this journey … what a ride it’s been! To have become part of the IoH family, to love and serve and see hurting families so powerfully impacted has been a great life changer for us.

Not til eternity will we see how many lives have been transformed, Kristen and Deric, because you were willing to claim the vision God gave you, step out of your comfort zone, and put together a ministry that’s produced a harvest of retreat participants, volunteers, staff, runners, and doners. Together, we have joined hearts and hands and grown into a strong, vibrant, extended family, embracing your vision as our own.

    With love, always ~

Inheritance of Hope has changed my life and so many others!

I am so thankful that Deric and Kristen took a huge leap of faith in obedience to love and serve others. What a blessing!

We are so thankful for God’s sovereign plan for the lives of Kristen and Deric, and their faithfulness to the call that God placed on their hearts!!
We have been so blessed by this ministry as we experienced a legacy retreat last November in NYC.
My 10 year old son still tells people that this was his most favorite trip ever because he “felt just like everyone else for a few days”!!!! This is huge for a child to feel comforted and loved by a community that shares such a unique life experience, that of a very ill parent. Continued love and support to all you wonderful people at IoH.

I cant say it enough, How blessed we were and are to have IOH in our lives. Enis, myself and his three daughters were part of the retreat in 1-2010, and just yesterday I was looking thru the album that was given to us. I feel like time went by to fast, and I should have done more, said more, and loved more… Because Enis is now in Heaven (4-27-12). And I have so many memories with him, but would have loved to have had more…. I am hoping to volunteer now for a IOH retreat.. so I too can share my story and the story of Enis….. Happy Bday IOH you are the best…

Our family was so blessed to have had the opportunity to meet all of the wonderful staff and families on our retreat in 2008. God bless all of you and the strength of the Milligans is second to none. To all the donors may God bless you all – words could never begin to tell you how deeply you have touched our hearts and helped us start to heal from the heart – inside out… God bless and may strength and love from our father be with all of you… Amy,Tim, Connor & Aydin

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Inheritance of Hope, Kristen, Deric, Jill and the incredible volunteers. We were able to attend one of the retreats and I am so blessed that my family and I got to experience something so wonderful. It has taught my children that they are not the only kids with a parent with cancer and taught them how to work through and talk about their feelings. It has taught me that it is okay to realize that one day we will be with God but I can at least do all that I can to leave my boys a legacy of who I am and how much I love them. You are amazing and I love you all! Shari, Rob, Jordan and Justin. God Bless!

Our family has benefited directly from Inheritance of Hope. We were invited to experience our our own Legacy Retreat last summer at Disney World. The gift of “Inheritance of Hope” changed us and our perspective, and impacted my children tremendously. The experience has helped Janis and I prepare, while connecting with a “new” family that loves and supports us. There were 16 families at our retreat, and we estimate that our share of the cost was 7 to 8 thousand dollars. Deric & Kristen Milligan are passionate, giving people that are great stewards who continue to bless families that have a terminally ill parent – through Inheritance of Hope. Will you please consider giving (in a big way) to send another family?

I applaud you, Kristen and Deric for being faithful servants of the Lord for creating and organization “Inheritance of Hope” for people who are in the same situation as yourselves. I know that God is faithful and will not let you down. You have already blessed our family who will be fortunate enough to attend your next Legacy Retreat in May. You are an inspiration of fresh hope and an amazing couple and family. I look forward to meeting you and your staff real soon.

Happy Birthday Inheritance of Hope, and may you continue to touch the hearts of families in need of spiritual healing for many more years to come.

As I read Kristen’s book and watch these videos I feel comfort and peace to see what your family has done to help others in your same situation. I am greatful that God has led you to help our family and others even through this rough time you are going through also. God Bless You and Happy 5th Birthday!

I am quite overwhelmed after viewing this site. I am eternally grateful to Derrick and Kristen for their work and the Love that they gave to my family. Being part of the very first retreat in 2008, I feel Honored and so Blessed to have been given that amazing experience. It has been 3 years since my beloved Mark passed. The Four children and I always refer to Our Last and Best family vacation. I knew than what I am convinced of now, This is a God given ministry that will continue to grow!!!!

Thank your Kristen and family for making this trip possible for my brother, sister and Godchildren. Life has not been easy, yet a gift like this can bring some peace and joy to this truly special family. May they touch your heart like they touch ours every day! God bless you all!
