As a parent, one of the many questions we have in life regarding parenting stems from a desire to care for our kids from a far. If that means while we are out of town, if we are dropping them off at camp or college, if we have a life-threatening illness that could cause death before we would wish, or simply when we take them to a friends house to play. Although these are a wide variety of circumstances... the same thing applies: we will inevitably be apart from our kids at many point in our lives, some temporary & some permanent.
I was reading an article the other day that proposed "life's most urgent question".
It was not...
1) Where is the best sale today?
2)Who is the prettiest/sexiest/wealthiest person alive?
3) What is the most lucrative career?
What are you doing for others?
I love this!
I used to attend a class at a local gym called "Power." We did dynamic weight lifting and by the end of the class almost every muscle in my body was shaking. After weeks of training, I started seeing real results! I could lift my kids and carry big bags of groceries with ease. My back hurt less and I had more energy.
The NYC Half Marathon is coming up on March 18. (We still have a few bibs left if you would like to join us!) As a race approaches, I often ponder how important the runners are to our organization. The funds raised by our runners are critical to sustaining and growing the Inheritance of Hope Legacy Retreats. These retreats are one of the main outreaches of IOH, reaching families across the nation with hope and support for their journey facing a life-threatening diagnosis.
I was privileged to participate in this February's Disney Legacy Retreat that took place a couple weeks ago. 12 families attended - and lives were impacted and changed - in both families attending and volunteers serving.
We are just a few days away from Valentine's Day, the holiday of LOVE. When I think of parents & kids... I think "Love is Listening". Many of you just returned home from the latest retreat in Orlando. Some of you have attended past retreats. Some are only passing through on the website & stumbled upon this post just now. Whatever category you fall into, you clicked on this most likely because you are home, back in the reality of your daily routines... & want to know how to live life fully in the midst of your circumstances & enjoy each moment. You want to know how to best love & care for your kids (and each other for that matter).
In just one week 16 families and 34 staff/volunteers will meet in Orlando for an amazing Inheritance of Hope Legacy Retreat.
We will travel from Florida, Ohio, Tennessee, Indiana, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, Michigan, Kansas, New York, Georgia, and North Carolina.
