This Fall I will be participating in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C.  in memory of my Grandpa Gene and in support of the nonprofit organization Inheritance of Hope. The Marine Corps Marathon is a special event to me.  I have many fond memories of taking the trip down to Washington D.C. to spend time with my family and watch my grandfather compete in the marathon.  There is no doubt that my passion for running and a persevering ethic were instilled in me while watching Grandpa Gene battle up the final hill towards the finish line.  I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to develop these family memories that will always be with me.  This is something that every family deserves.  As a parent, I often wonder what experiences will become the lasting memories that my children will take with them.

I am participating in the Marine Corps Marathon on October 28, 2012 to raise funds and awareness for Inheritance of Hope, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving families with children who have a parent with a life-threatening illness.

Inheritance of Hope (www.InheritanceOfHope.org) helps young families who face the terminal illness of a parent build their legacies through Legacy Retreats: four day all-expenses-paid events where families come together to make memories, build a community of support, and gain tools to manage the challenges they face.  Inheritance of Hope also funds a Legacy Scholarship for college-bound seniors living with a terminally ill parent and offers various other support services that address the deep needs of these families.

In the United States, there are over one million family members facing the challenges of a parent’s terminal illness. These families’ entire lives become consumed by the illness, leaving them without the resources to plan or pay for meaningful family time.  These families need support for the daily challenges their life situation brings.  And, despite the ongoing trials and challenges that they face, they need the opportunity develop memories that will last a lifetime. Inheritance of Hope’s vision is that “Every Family Deserves a Legacy.”

Thanks for your support!

As a member of Team Inheritance of Hope, my participation in the Marine Corps Marathon on October 28, 2012, will raise funds and awareness for Inheritance of Hope, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving families with children who have a parent with a life-threatening illness.  Please help me meet (or exceed!) my goal.  With your contribution, we can share together in the joy of helping to build legacies for young families who are facing tremendous challenges in their lives.

Inheritance of Hope coordinates and hosts Legacy Retreats® for families with children under 18 who have a parent with a life-threatening illness. Because of generous supporters like you, these Retreats are provided at absolutely no cost to the participating families. These events offer unique and fun activities for parents and children together, forming precious, lifelong memories for the whole family. They also create a community of people who find comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their struggles. Beyond the Legacy Retreats®, Inheritance of Hope offers a scholarship, inspirational literature, and speaking engagements that address the deep needs of these families.

Inheritance of Hope is a young organization with a big vision. In the United States, there are over one million family members facing the challenges of a parent’s terminal illness. These families’ entire lives become consumed by the illness, leaving them without the resources to plan or pay for meaningful family time. Inheritance of Hope’s vision is that “Every Family Deserves a Legacy.”®
