WELCOME TO MARC'S PAGE!

Dear friends and family,

I am very excited to announce that I have joined the “Inheritance of Hope” team to run my first NYC Half Marathon. Most of you probably wonder what is wrong with me as I am not that type of guy who would do that. Here is the thing:

Last year I did realize that you cannot take things for granted in life. Having everything in order, a healthy family, and a well balanced life is not a given, and being on blood pressure medication with 34 years while being heavily overweight does not guarantee that this will continue. I therefore decided to make some drastic changes in my lifestyle. Eating healthier food in combination with consistent exercising showed drastic results. I started to run on a regular basis in Central Park, and distances that seemed unreachable became a normal round. It is now the time to step up and push it even more. During this experience I did realize that it is not only about me, myself, and I. Every night when I come home and see my wonderful family, I notice how lucky we are and that it is now the time to give back. Inheritance of Hope is a wonderful organization that does support families that go through tough times and might not be as lucky and blessed as we are. I therefore decided to support families in need and hope you will support me to achieve my goal to raise $1000 to help others to get a little break from a difficult time in their lives.

I will dedicate my run to my wife, Tanja, and my two kids, Fynn and Sydney, for being so supportive and loving. I also hope to encourage Fynn and Sydney for their future lives not to take everything as a given and to keep in mind that there are people in need around us.

As a member of Team Inheritance of Hope, my participation in the NYC Half Marathon on March 21, 2010 will raise funds and awareness for Inheritance of Hope, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving families with children who have a parent with a life-threatening illness. Help me meet (or exceed!) my goal of $1,000. With your contribution, we can share together in the joy of helping to build legacies for families who are facing a tremendous challenge in their lives.

Inheritance of Hope coordinates and hosts Family Retreats for families with children under 18 who have a parent with a life-threatening illness. Because of generous supporters like you, their Retreats are provided at absolutely no cost to the participating families. These events offer unique and fun activities for parents and children together, forming precious, lifelong memories for the whole family. They also create a community of people who find comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their struggles. Just as importantly, these Retreats are restful – a rare luxury for ill parents. Beyond the Family Retreats, Inheritance of Hope also offers a scholarship, inspirational literature, and speaking engagements that address the deep needs of these families.

Inheritance of Hope is a young organization with a big vision. In the United States, there are over one million family members facing the challenges of a parent’s terminal illness. These families’ entire lives become consumed by the illness, leaving them without the resources to plan or pay for meaningful family time. Inheritance of Hope’s vision is that “Every Family Deserves a Legacy.”^®
