WELCOME TO GRACE'S PAGE! It is with great excitement that I will be running the New York City ½ Marathon this March for Inheritance of Hope. Inheritance of Hope is a nonprofit organization that ministers to families with a deathly-ill parent through legacy building retreats. My dear friend, Kristen Milligan, along with her husband, started this nonprofit two years after Kristen was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. She saw a need in helping families who were living with such a diagnosis. I couldn’t agree more. Cancer has shaped my spiritual life, from bringing me to a relationship with Jesus Christ when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, to a point of surrender when my husband was diagnosed with cancer, to a better understanding of perseverance when Kristen was diagnosed, and finally to a point of hopeful expectation in what my God can do through my husband’s most recent cancer diagnosis. I know for me, with my husband’s most recent cancer diagnosis, I have been so blessed to have Kristen as a resource to help me through my current situation. Since she has “been through it,” she was able to offer advice and give great counsel. This is what families who go on IOH retreats have at their disposal -- someone who has been through the ups and downs of a terminal diagnosis and all the wisdom that comes from such experiences. We all may not receive a terminal diagnosis from our doctors, but in reality, we are all terminal. We will not live in our bodies forever…so with this in mind, would you join me in making each day count by financially supporting me in this fundraising event? My goal is to raise at least $2,000. I would love to surpass that by thousands, but for the sake of the thermometer on the page, I must have a dollar amount. Please prayerfully consider a monetary donation. You truly would be helping transform lives. Thanks! Grace Gerdin As a member of Team Inheritance of Hope, my participation in the NYC Half Marathon on March 21, 2010 will raise funds and awareness for Inheritance of Hope, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving families with children who have a parent with a life-threatening illness. Help me meet (or exceed!) my goal of $2,000. With your contribution, we can share together in the joy of helping to build legacies for families who are facing a tremendous challenge in their lives. Inheritance of Hope coordinates and hosts Family Retreats for families with children under 18 who have a parent with a life-threatening illness. Because of generous supporters like you, their Retreats are provided at absolutely no cost to the participating families. These events offer unique and fun activities for parents and children together, forming precious, lifelong memories for the whole family. They also create a community of people who find comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their struggles. Just as importantly, these Retreats are restful – a rare luxury for ill parents. Beyond the Family Retreats, Inheritance of Hope also offers a scholarship, inspirational literature, and speaking engagements that address the deep needs of these families. Inheritance of Hope is a young organization with a big vision. In the United States, there are over one million family members facing the challenges of a parent’s terminal illness. These families’ entire lives become consumed by the illness, leaving them without the resources to plan or pay for meaningful family time. Inheritance of Hope’s vision is that “Every Family Deserves a Legacy.”® Thanks for your support!!!
Inheritance of Hope is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, EIN 75-3243566. All contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
