Inheritance of Hope

Inheritance of Hope is a young organization with a big vision. We serve families that have a young parent diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. We provide all-expenses-paid Legacy Retreats and ongoing support to these families.

Inheritance of Hope strives to serve the entire family when a parent with children under 18 is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.  We offer a community of support where parents can encourage and support one another, and where children can meet other children who understand their fears and struggles.  We offer professional counselors who advise and encourage both the parents and the children.  We offer memories for families to cherish for a lifetime, regardless of whether their parent lives a month or another 60 years.

  • Run 13.1 miles through the heart of Manhattan on March 18, 2012!


    Guaranteed Entry into the 2012 NYC Half Marathon!


    By joining Team IOH, you will help us to serve families with a parent diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.



    As a member of Team Inheritance of Hope, you will receive: 


    1. a private Team IOH pasta dinner on March 17th at the Hotel Novotel Times Square!Hotel Novotel Times Square Aside from hearing brief stories of how your money will make a difference and meeting your fellow Team IOH runners, you will enjoy an amazing (carbo load) meal in an incredibly beautiful restaurant overlooking Times Square!  Many runners have told us that during the difficult miles of their race, they were motivated by picturing the families they have helped to serve. WOW!  Hotel Novotel, as a valued partner of Inheritance of Hope, hosts not only this dinner for you, but also hosts Legacy Retreats for our families.  This is a very special dinner at a very special place.  You will not want to miss this!
    2. the top fundraiser, raising funds over $1500 by March 9, 2012, will win a Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS-Enabled Sports Watch with Heart Rate Monitor!
    3. your registration fee will be reimbursed upon raising $1,400 in donations 
    4. extensive online fundraising resources - to make your fundraising effort simple and successful.
    5. access to the Team IOH online community.  Get to know your fellow teammates throughout the months preceding the race. 
    6. use of our online Bart Yasso training schedules - designed for Newbies, Seasoned and Hard-core half-marathoners.  Train and compare notes with other teammates around the country.
    7. a moisture wicking performance shirt to wear on race day
    8. a commemorative Inheritance of Hope hat

    What is my fundraising commitment?

    All new Team IOH runners are required to raise a minimum of $1,200 by March 9, 2012.


    If you are a returning Team IOH runner, your fundraising commitment is $1000.


    How can I register?


    After you register on the Inheritance of Hope website by clicking 'register now', you will be invited through the NYRRs to register on their site.   Your credit card will be charged by Inheritance of Hope to cover the cost of the registration fee. 


    Registrants are required to provide credit card information as a guarantee.  Your credit card will only be charged for the balance remaining if we have not received donations totaling $1,200 ($1000 for returning Team IOH runners) by March 9, 2012.


    The registration form is prepopulated with "0.00" as the amount.  Please leave the amount as "0.00" and ensure the comment field indicates NYC Half Marathon.


    There is a 30 day period after you sign up to withdraw your name from the Team Inheritance of Hope roster for the 2012 NYC Half Marathon - with NO OBLIGATION to the fundraising commitment.   Due to the NYRR registration deadline for charities, registrations received after January 24, 2012 do not qualify for the No Obligation trial period.  Race registration fees are not refundable.

  • As a member of Team Inheritance of Hope, my participation in the NYC Half Marathon on March 18, 2012, will raise funds and awareness for Inheritance of Hope, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving families with children who have a parent with a life-threatening illness.  Please help me meet (or exceed!) my goal.  With your contribution, we can share together in the joy of helping to build legacies for young families who are facing tremendous challenges in their lives.

    Inheritance of Hope coordinates and hosts Legacy Retreats for families with children under 18 who have a parent with a life-threatening illness. Because of generous supporters like you, these Retreats are provided at absolutely no cost to the participating families. These events offer unique and fun activities for parents and children together, forming precious, lifelong memories for the whole family. They also create a community of people who find comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their struggles. Beyond the Legacy Retreats, Inheritance of Hope offers a scholarship,inspirational literature, and speaking engagements that address the deep needs of these families.

    Inheritance of Hope is a young organization with a big vision. In the United States, there are over one million family members facing the challenges of a parent’s terminal illness. These families’ entire lives become consumed by the illness, leaving them without the resources to plan or pay for meaningful family time.
