OTHER RESOURCES

Especially Helpful Websites for Ill Parents and Their Children
This treasure trove of resources was put together by an attendee of a past Legacy Retreat, a mother living with a life-threatening illness. Her background was in social work, and she graciously used her skills to put together everything she could find that might be of benefit to you and your family. There may be many here that do not apply to you, yet there may be a few, or even just one, that blesses you greatly. This is her gift to you!

Dream Hope Believe Foundation
Dream Hope Believe Foundation offers financial assistance to children and young people who have lost a parent to cancer through a variety of grants and scholarships. Grants can cover a wide variety of things, but examples would include daycare services, school costs or tuition, healthcare services, and many other things that a child may require.  Learn more at dreamhopebelieve.org.

Good Days
Good Days, formerly known as Chronic Disease Fund, exists to improve the health and quality of life of patients with chronic disease, cancer, or other life-altering conditions.  The cost of medications to treat chronic disease can be staggering, adding to the despair and suffering of these patients.  At Good Days, our mission is to ensure no one has to choose between getting the medication they need and affording the necessities of everyday living.  We help patients suffering from chronic medical conditions who have limited financial means get access to the medications they need.  Our program helps qualified patients pay their insurance co-pays so they can get immediate access to prescription medications that will give them relief from pain and suffering.  More information can be found at gooddaysfromcdf.org.

Cleaning for a Reason Foundation
Fighting cancer is difficult enough, but living with it is even tougher -- that's where the Cleaning for a Reason Foundation steps in.  This nonprofit offers free professional housecleaning and maid services to improve the lives of women undergoing treatment for cancer -- any type of cancer.  More information can be found at cleaningforareason.org.

Light One Little Candle Foundation
The Light One Little Candle Foundation was created by Connecticut mother Joelle Pauporte, a psychiatrist who was fighting breast cancer and wanted to leave a legacy of memories and life lessons for her young daughter, Halle.  Light One Little Candle is designed to encourage cancer patients who are also caregivers to continue to bond with their children throughout their illness by reading books together that have nothing to do with cancer. The idea is for patients to get lost in classic and funny stories about life, like The Velveteen Rabbit, Winnie-the-Pooh, and The Little Prince.  More information can be found at lightonelittlecandle.org.
