Times Square Countdown

When most people think about a Times Square countdown, they think of a giant ball being lowered from a tall pole in the center of New York City while millions of people count down to a new year.

Confetti. Music. Celebration.

Well, Inheritance of Hope is about to begin a Times Square countdown of our own, and we are going to focus on lifting the burdens and lightening the loads of 21 families from all over the country who have young children facing the loss of a parent.

Meet the Rye Family

The wintry weather in New York City was a bit of a challenge for the Rye family from Florida, but Joel Rye said it didn't stop his family from making memories at the Inheritance of Hope Legacy Retreat® in November 2013.

“We'll always remember all the people of IoH being so loving and giving,” he said. “It was just stress free.”

The past two years have been particularly challenging for Joel's family. Almost a decade after doctors first discovered melanoma on his ear, Joel learned his cancer had spread. Doctors said he had mere months to live.

Thankful

thankfulThe calendar still says November, but most everyone’s attention has turned to Christmas.  I love Christmas!  Time together with family, sweet treats, beautiful lights, lovely music, and gift giving to honor the greatest Gift ever given . . . Jesus Christ.

But I find myself not quite ready to let go of Thanksgiving yet . . . there are so very many reasons to be thankful, the season deserves to linger.  Even in the midst of really difficult times . . . whether it be health related, financial, relational or something else entirely . . . there is always something for which we can be grateful.

The Hull Family

Currently (at 6:30am) the skies are clear and it is 53 degrees.  This day will start with a delicious breakfast at the Hotel Novotel. Did I mention that this luxurious hotel is in the heart of Times Square and we only need to look out our windows to see the most spectacular view of New York City?  Families have been enjoying the rooftop deck. Make sure you check out the pictures! (You have to be a member of the "Fans of the 2011 New York City Legacy Group".)

A Day Packed With Fun!

100_1740

The weather continued to amaze us all day today as the temperatures remained around 60 degrees all afternoon and evening.  The families walked about 4 blocks to Radio City Music Hall after lunch and enjoyed the legendary Christmas Spectacular Show featuring the Rockettes.  The children and adults alike were thrilled with the show and also the drinks and popcorn they got to enjoy during it.

A Beautiful Day in NYC

DSC_0132

Another beautiful day in the city.  We enjoyed another magnificent breakfast at the Hotel Novotel at 8:30 this morning.  While we ate, we watched four guys change a large billboard.  It was impressive to watch, especially at eye level!  The weather is warmer today.  As I write, it's 64 degrees - toasty considering it's almost December.

After breakfast, everyone headed up to 73rd for our meeting time.  Parents had a great session talking about legacy.  Linda Stoll, the counselor who skillfully facilitates these sessions said "the session went fabulously and the parents did great work."

Hard Rock Cafe

DSC_0008

Times Square was hopping tonight!  After our meeting time together we headed down to Times Square Hard Rock Cafe and it was the place to be!!! There were people everywhere.  Many of us got to see ourself on the HUGE electronic billboard as we walked through the crowded square.  Some of us even watched a man propose to a woman right there in the middle of Times Square with a camera projecting them onto the big screen.  (She said, "Yes")
