Desire for a Different Life - June 2017

I’ve been coming to Inheritance of Hope Legacy Retreats for many years now. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed as families walk into the hotel, and I see all the desires that come in the door with them.

In the short-term, families want to figure out what to do with their luggage and get settled into their rooms (thankfully, we have a mob of volunteers to help them with that!). The kids may want a delicious DoubleTree cookie, or they may want their brother to stop poking them. They may desire to skip meeting all these new people and run straight to Disney World.

Storm Chasers - October 2016

Hurricane Matthew is quickly approaching Florida’s east coast, and a bunch of hope-inspirers are leaving their comfortable homes and flying, driving, swimming their way to Orlando to serve 19 families facing storms much bigger than this hurricane.

These families have been counting down the days until their Legacy Retreat, and no hurricane is going to spoil this priceless experience for them.

Unto Us a Child is Born... Now What?! - December 2014

In Advent and Christmas we consider the coming of a child into our world.  This year such considerations are 24/7 realities in my life since Allison and I received our first child, Estella Mae, less than three weeks ago.  Unto us a child is born!  I cannot help but reflect afresh on the coming of the child who invites all the world to echo Isaiah 9:6 with the energy of Handel’s Messiah, “Unto us a child is born!”

After long expectancy, trying labor, and the wonder of delivery, our beautiful baby finally arrived.  Everything we had looked forward to and prepared for had happened, yet it was clear that we weren’t done.  We had a baby, but this journey was just beginning.  Our wonder was joined by wondering, “Now what?!”

This is even truer in the birth of Jesus.

Thankful for Legacies: Troy Steiner, Board of Directors

Our founder, Kristen Milligan, left a profound legacy with her family and the families we serve. As we approach the second anniversary of her death, we showcase members of our Inheritance of Hope family and what legacy means to them.

Troy Steiner has served on the Inheritance of Hope Board of Directors since 2010. He is Vice President of Operations at Graphics Service Bureau in New York City.

What has always amazed me is that my mom, who died 41 years ago, is still remembered and spoken of frequently by so many people because of the everlasting imprint she left in their lives.

To speak or write of her is challenging for me because I did not know her. I was 6 months old when she was tragically removed from our lives. While horseback riding with a friend on a neighboring property, which was a hobby of hers, something spooked her horse. The horse threw her, and my mother hit her head on a rock. She was pronounced dead at the hospital a few hours later. It all seemed so quick and pointless to me that a life so precious as hers could be taken away instantly. My father was now a widower, and my siblings and I were now motherless, just like that.

Ordinary Hope - December 2013

I love the Christmas season.  For several weeks, everything takes on a special quality.  Special foods and drinks appear.  Special music fills the air.  Parties and family gatherings celebrate special relationships.  Special traditions remind us of special memories.  Decorations and lights transform ordinary trees and buildings.  Perhaps you

Time With Loved Ones - February 2013

February is sometimes referred to as the month of love.  We celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 14th, and there are many reminders to spend time with our loved ones.   As an Inheritance of Hope volunteer, I recently saw an amazing amount of love at the January Legacy Retreat®.  The families were able to
