The Puzzle of Life

I love to do puzzles, but it is much easier if you have the box top "big" picture to guide you.  Life is not like that.  We do not have the "big" or the "whole" picture at any given point.  We get one puzzle piece at a time and over time as we put them together in what makes up our individual life picture so we start to see a part of the "big" or "whole" picture of our life.  However we never really know how much of the picture we are seeing at any given time.  It may seem that it is only a corner of the puzzle, but it may actually be the majority of our life puzzle or we may think our puzzle is nearly complete when we have only put together half of the puzzle.

Poor Cat

cat

I am not a cat lover.  However, tonight when the car in front of me accidentally ran over a cat I shivered and shreeked. I felt sad for that poor kitty and the owner who was currently ignorant to that fact that the cat was gone.

Why on earth did the cat bolt out so quickly into the road when cars were speeding by in both directions? Why couldn't she just wait a few minutes for a clear path so she could cross safely?

Finding Courage

I read something recently about courage and what it means.  Does it make you think of respect, strength, assurance, endurance, bravery of spirit and conduct?  How does it fit in with fear?  Fear can be such a debilitating feeling in our lives, yet once we conquer it, it can produce feelings of freedom, relief, and even excitement.

The Whole Body

keyboard

I am not a very fast typist. However, to my children (ages 10 and 8) I am a superstar typist.

When my children walk into the room and I am working on my computer they usually comment on how fast my fingers are moving on the keyboard.  They are amazed at the clicking sound my nails make when I type quickly and they often try to replicate it when they play on the computer. Clearly, my fingers are important for typing but my brain, my eyes, and my internal organs are all functioning to help me.

The Journey and the View from the Top

I live in the mountains and it still amazes me how awe struck I can be at any moment.  The mountains are the same, but with just the right light and any given time of year they look different.  They look more beautiful and breath-taking everyday.  Some days it is because it is a crystal clear day and other days it is because of the way the fog has settled in or is lifting.  Here is a story I read from You Changed My Life by Max Lucado that really made me think about the mountains in our lives and the daily journey we have throughout our lives.

A Kiss of Kindness

A Kiss of Kindness

A Kiss of Kindness

"Kind hearts are quietly kind. They let the car cut into traffic and the young mom with three kids move up in the checkout line. They pick up the neighbor's trashcan that rolled into the street."

It really is the little things in life that mean so much. We all have opportunities to do these little things for each other, but we also have the opportunity to receive these gifts of kindness.

Tides and Waves

DSC_0039

I just spent a few days at the beach with my family for Spring Break. It was wonderful! My parents recently moved into a condo that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and I really enjoyed standing out on their balcony and listening to the waves come in and out constantly.

Sometimes they were gentle and other times they were quite rough, but one thing was certain, they were never still.  The waves kept coming and the tide rose and fell.
