A Night Out

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011 by Jill Thompson

Tonight everyone enjoyed a night out! Even the rain couldn’t damper our delight to head out on the town.

All of the parents were given gift cards to eat at a fancy New York City restaurant.  They were thrilled to have a nice evening just as adults, but not as thrilled as their children were to have Kids Night Out!   Read the rest of this entry »

This morning it is a little bit cooler and cloudy in the Big Apple.

Most of the families were a little later down to breakfast this morning, feeling the tiredness from an amazing a busy day yesterday.  After filling their bellies with the Novotel’s delicious breakfast spread everyone was able to perk up to begin a fun and full day in the city. Rockin’ with the Rockettes

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011 by Jill Thompson

What an amazing night!

Following a scrumptious dinner  at the Hotel Novotel we took a 3 block walk to Radio City Music Hall. All of the families were super excited to see the show.

The show started with a 3D movie experience and moved into a kick line.  The Rockettes were amazing as santas, toy soldiers, shoppers, humbug zappers, and glittery Christmas decorations.IMG_1377 Read the rest of this entry »

Today has been a great day! The weather has been fantastic and all the families are enjoying each other and New York City.

The Hull Family

Currently (at 6:30am) the skies are clear and it is 53 degrees.  This day will start with a delicious breakfast at the Hotel Novotel. Did I mention that this luxurious hotel is in the heart of Times Square and we only need to look out our windows to see the most spectacular view of New York City?  Families have been enjoying the rooftop deck. Make sure you check out the pictures! (You have to be a member of the “Fans of the 2011 New York City Legacy Group”.)

The Big Apple

NYC SkylineTen days from today 16 families from 10 different states will arrive in New York City for a trip of a lifetime. They will arrive from California, Florida, Missouri, Minnesota, Georgia, North Carolina, Washington, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and South Dakota.

Although we serve a wide variety of families with a wide variety of conditions it always amazes me that the community that develops at our Legacy Retreats is very rich and unified.  These families may come from all over the country but they have much in common. One of the commonalities is their excitement regarding this retreat.  Understandably so…. Read the rest of this entry »

It is hard to believe we have only known each other 3 days.  These past few days have really bonded us all together in such a wonderful and special way.  The children created some very special relationships with our volunteers and staff.  I heard more then one of them say they “don’t want to leave” (Gage) and “wish they could stay together longer.” (Jordan and Justin)  This children are leaving with some amazing memories with their families, some wonderful new friendships with the volunteers and other family members and some tools to help manage and work through their personal struggles and fears. Seeing the City from Land and Sea

Sunday, November 21st, 2010 by Jill Thompson

Today was an amazing day!  We kicked off this morning with a yummy breakfast at the Hotel Novotel enjoying the view of Times Square as we munched on french toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, muffins and fruit.  The Elliott boys were particularly thrilled at the large steaming mugs of hot cocoa delivered to their table.  Following breakfast we had our morning session together.  The children had a blast with some very creative activities involving a lot of exploding water and a messy swamp…I will leave it at that to keep the surprise in tact for future Legacy Retreat families.
