Inheritance of Hope will be celebrating its 5th birthday next Monday, May 21st! I have watched the growth of Inheritance of Hope and its subsequent outreach to 99 families since its inception in 2007. I have watched my friends, Deric and Kristen Milligan, Inheritance of Hope founders, take up the challenge to live vibrantly after a diagnosis that would send most of us staggering.
I am not a cat lover. However, tonight when the car in front of me accidentally ran over a cat I shivered and shreeked. I felt sad for that poor kitty and the owner who was currently ignorant to that fact that the cat was gone.
Why on earth did the cat bolt out so quickly into the road when cars were speeding by in both directions? Why couldn’t she just wait a few minutes for a clear path so she could cross safely? Read the rest of this entry»

Today it is rainy outside. Here in North Carolina the pollen has finally subsided and the trees are full of green leaves. We are in the midst of spring. I was just sitting at my kitchen table with my young boys watching them eat their breakfast. They are ravenous as soon as they wake! My 3 year old asked me why it was raining. (He is in the “why” everything stage!) Over the past six months I have been reading a book that I cannot seem to put down. Clearly it is teaching me old truths with new perspective that are enticing. So trying to put together some logical answer for why indeed it was raining outside, while still trying to wake up at this early hour, all I could come up with was this: “honey, God lets it rain so that things around us can be more beautiful”. You know what followed that… “but why mommy?” I smiled.
Why does it rain in our lives? Sometimes it just sprinkles. We find out news that could lead to worse news. Sometimes it pours. We feel like the whole world is beginning to fall apart around us. Sometimes it floods. We feel like we may drown in it all. Read the rest of this entry»

The New York Road Runner’s have chosen Team IOH to be a part of the 2012 ING NYC Marathon charity program. With the 5 spots awarded, the Team IOH goal is to raise at least $50,000 (each team member with a goal of $10,000), which will send 10 families on the NYC Legacy Retreat this November. One spot on the team is still available.

Extreme Waterfall after Rain
It’s that time of year to start thinking about a training plan for your summer or fall race. Training for a race can often be extreme… like, going out on a 20 mile run on a Saturday morning … or, swimming a mile and then jumping on your bike for a 10 mile sprint. It’s going through the extremes that helps you to enjoy the journey. The extremes condition you so you can cover the distance with less pain. Today I want to tell you about an extreme journey taken by my friend Angela Bailey…
I am not a very fast typist. However, to my children (ages 10 and 8) I am a superstar typist.
When my children walk into the room and I am working on my computer they usually comment on how fast my fingers are moving on the keyboard. They are amazed at the clicking sound my nails make when I type quickly and they often try to replicate it when they play on the computer.
