Inheritance of Hope

Inheritance of Hope is a young organization with a big vision. We serve families that have a young parent diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. We provide all-expenses-paid Legacy Retreats and ongoing support to these families.

Inheritance of Hope strives to serve the entire family when a parent with children under 18 is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.  We offer a community of support where parents can encourage and support one another, and where children can meet other children who understand their fears and struggles.  We offer professional counselors who advise and encourage both the parents and the children.  We offer memories for families to cherish for a lifetime, regardless of whether their parent lives a month or another 60 years.

    Inheritance of Hope is proud to be an official Charity Partner in the 2011 Marine Corps Marathon!

    What do I get?

    1. Inheritance of Hope pays your race registration for the Marine Corps Marathon!

    2. private Team pasta dinner on Saturday, October 29. Aside from meeting the staff of Inheritance of Hope, hearing brief stories of how your money will make a difference, and meeting your fellow Team IOH runners, you will enjoy an amazing (carbo load) meal in an incredibly beautiful private home overlooking the Potomac River!  Many runners have told us that during the difficult miles of their race, they were motivated by picturing the families they have helped to serve.  WOW! This is a very special dinner at a very special place. You will not want to miss this!

    3. technical race day shirt and Inheritance of Hope hat

    4. Inheritance of Hope Charity Tent race day privileges including: pre race breakfast, post race meeting area and food, and baggage check.  All of this within close proximity to the start and finish lines

    5. use of our online Bart Yasso training schedules - designed for Newbies, Seasoned and Hard-core marathoners.  Train and compare notes with other teammates around the country.

    6. extensive online fundraising resources - to make your fundraising effort simple and successful.

    7. access to the Team IOH online community.  Get to know your fellow teammates throughout the months preceding the race.

    8. for recruiting 5 or more friends to join Team IOH for the 2011 MCM, you will receive two nights on the race weekend at the Crowne Plaza in Arlington, Virginia - CLOSE to the starting line.

    9. the top fundraiser will win a Garmin Forerunner 405 Wireless GPS-Enabled Sports Watch with Heart Rate Monitor!  Funds received by October 15, 2011 will be counted towards this incentive.

    What is my fundraising commitment?

    Runners are required to raise a minimum of $1,000 by October 21, 2011.

    If you are currently on active duty in the US Armed Forces, the minimum to raise is $750.00 by October 21, 2011.

    If you are a returning Team IOH member, the minimum to raise is $500.00 by October 21, 2011.

    Applicants are required to provide credit card information as a guarantee.  Your credit card will only be charged for the balance remaining if we have not received donations totaling $1,000 by October 21, 2011. ($750 for active duty and $500 for returning Team IOH members).

    There is a 30 day period after you sign up to withdraw your name from the Team Inheritance of Hope roster for the 2011 Marine Corps Marathon - with NO OBLIGATION to the fundraising commitment.  Due to the MCM registration deadline for charities, registrations received after July 24, 2011 do not qualify for the No Obligation trial period.

    The registration form is prepopulated with "0.00" as the amount.  To avoid your card being charged when you sign up, please leave the amount as "0.00" and ensure the comment field indicates Marine Corps Marathon.

  • As a member of Team Inheritance of Hope, my participation in the Marine Corps Marathon on October 30, 2011, will raise funds and awareness for Inheritance of Hope, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving families with children who have a parent with a life-threatening illness.  Please help me meet (or exceed!) my goal.  With your contribution, we can share together in the joy of helping to build legacies for young families who are facing tremendous challenges in their lives.

    Inheritance of Hope coordinates and hosts Legacy Retreats for families with children under 18 who have a parent with a life-threatening illness. Because of generous supporters like you, these Retreats are provided at absolutely no cost to the participating families. These events offer unique and fun activities for parents and children together, forming precious, lifelong memories for the whole family. They also create a community of people who find comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their struggles. Beyond the Legacy Retreats, Inheritance of Hope offers a scholarship,inspirational literature, and speaking engagements that address the deep needs of these families.

    Inheritance of Hope is a young organization with a big vision. In the United States, there are over one million family members facing the challenges of a parent’s terminal illness. These families’ entire lives become consumed by the illness, leaving them without the resources to plan or pay for meaningful family time.
